1. Our image licence policy

We only use images that carry one of these licences:

We never use images under NonCommercial (NC) or NoDerivatives (ND) licences, because StudyDerm is a commercial service.

How this is enforced:

Where an image is licensed CC BY or CC BY-SA, you can read the licence terms at the Creative Commons website using the licence name and version in the table below. Images remain the property of their creators. Our use of an image does not give you or anyone else any right in it beyond the licence the creator chose.

Images may be resized or compressed for display. Where we have cropped an image, the credit says so.

Patient privacy: images are published teaching images from public sources. We do not upload patient photographs of our own. Our image review process checks that a patient could not be identified from the picture.

2. Images in use today

Live images: 187. An image is listed here only if the question or card using it has been approved for display.

3. Where our questions come from

StudyDerm questions, answers and explanations are written by us as original educational items. They are written with reference to published guidance and literature, such as national guidelines (NICE, British Association of Dermatologists, SIGN, BNF and MHRA), manufacturer product information, published journal articles and standard textbooks. Each item carries its source links, which learners can open from the app.

Our authoring rules say:

We therefore do not claim to reproduce any examining body's exam content, and we do not intend to. This is our authoring rule and our review standard. We cannot give an absolute guarantee about every item, and we say so openly. If you believe any item copies material it should not, tell us (section 4).

The names of organisations, guidelines and publications above are used only to identify the sources of information. We are not connected to them.

4. Takedown and contact

If you made an image we use and think it is credited wrongly, or you think a licence has been misapplied, or you believe any content infringes your rights, email support@studyderm.app with:

We will acknowledge your message within 2 working days, and we will remove or correct the item while we look into it where there is a credible concern. We keep a log of reports and what we did. For the full process see Content Accuracy and Complaints.
