1. Who we are
StudyDerm is a trading name of FINTECH SERVICES LTD, a company registered in England and Wales, company number 13338780, registered office Apollo House, Hallam Way, Whitehills Business Park, Blackpool, England, FY4 5FS. VAT number: GB378913351. In this policy, "we", "us" and "our" mean FINTECH SERVICES LTD.
You can contact us about anything in this policy at support@studyderm.app.
This policy forms part of our Terms of Service. If the two ever conflict on cancellation or refunds, this policy applies. Nothing in this policy takes away your legal rights as a consumer.
2. Key points
- StudyDerm is sold only to customers based in the UK. See section 3.
- Your plan renews automatically until you cancel. For a plan billed every six months or longer, we email you 14 to 30 days before each renewal.
- You can cancel at any time from Manage billing in your account. Cancelling stops the next renewal. You keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for.
- First 14 days: you have a legal right to cancel within 14 days of buying and get a full refund. This applies even if you have used the paid content. If you cancel in Manage billing in that time, we email you to choose between a full refund and keeping access to the end of the paid period. See sections 4.4 and 5.
- After 14 days: if you have not used any paid content since your most recent payment, we cancel at once and refund that payment in full. If you have used paid content, we stop the renewal and you keep access to the end of the paid period, with no refund for that period. See section 6.
- If you dispute a payment with your bank or card issuer, we suspend your paid access and pause your billing while the dispute is open. See section 8.
3. What you pay for, and who can buy
Your subscription gives you access to the paid parts of StudyDerm for the plan you chose at checkout. The price, billing period and renewal date are shown at checkout and in your confirmation email. The price shown includes VAT.
UK only. StudyDerm is sold only to customers based in the UK. Checkout asks for your billing address. If an order has a billing address outside the UK, we may refuse it, or cancel it and refund it in full.
Some content is free to every signed-in user (the free preview). At present this is the first two units of the course roadmap. Everything else is paid content.
Payments are processed by Stripe, our payment provider. We are the seller.
What you buy is access to practice questions, explanations and study tools. We do not promise any exam result or other outcome, and we are not responsible for your results unless they result from our failure to use reasonable care and skill or our breach of the terms: see the Terms of Service, section 3.3 "No promise or responsibility for your results".
4. Buying a plan, and how to cancel
4.1 Before you pay
On the payment page, before you pay, you will see:
- the plan, its VAT-inclusive price, how often it is billed, and that it renews automatically until you cancel;
- a short statement of your 14-day right to cancel, including that you get a full refund even if you have used the paid content;
- links to our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, and a box you must tick that reads "I agree to the Terms of Service and have read the Privacy Policy";
- the statement "You ask us to start your access straight away. You keep your 14-day right to cancel and to a full refund.";
- "We accept debit and credit cards.";
- directly above the payment button: "By subscribing you agree to pay the price shown, including VAT, now and on each renewal until you cancel."
Ticking the box does not give up your 14-day right to cancel.
4.2 Your confirmation email
When your payment is confirmed, we email you a confirmation before your paid access starts. It contains your plan, price, billing period and renewal date, how to cancel, your 14-day right to cancel, the model cancellation form (as in the Annex), and the full text of the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy you agreed to, with their dates. Stripe also sends its own payment receipt.
4.3 Renewal reminders
For a plan billed every six months or longer, we email you 14 to 30 days before each renewal, starting before the first renewal. The email says when the renewal will happen, what you will pay, and how to cancel.
4.4 How to cancel
- Sign in to StudyDerm.
- Open your account and choose Manage billing.
- You are taken to our payment provider's secure billing page. Choose to cancel your plan.
What happens when you cancel this way after the first 14 days:
- Your plan will not renew. You will not be charged again.
- You keep access to paid content until the end of the period you have already paid for.
- After that, you return to the free preview.
- Cancelling in Manage billing after the first 14 days does not by itself give you a refund. To ask for one, email us (section 6).
If you cancel in Manage billing within the first 14 days, we treat it as your legal right to cancel (section 5) and email you to choose between:
- (a) a full refund, with your access to paid content ending when we process it; or
- (b) keeping your access until the end of the period you have paid for, with no refund.
If you do not reply, your plan stays cancelled at the end of the paid period and you keep access until then. You can still choose the full refund by replying to our email, or writing to support@studyderm.app, within 14 days of our email.
You can also cancel by emailing support@studyderm.app from the email address you sign in with.
5. Your legal right to cancel within 14 days
5.1 The right
If you are a consumer, you have the right to cancel your contract with us within 14 days, without giving any reason.
The 14 days start on the day after the day you complete checkout (the day the contract is made) and end at the end of the 14th day.
If we have not given you the required information, your cancellation period is longer, as set by law.
You get access to the paid content as soon as your payment is confirmed. You do not lose your right to cancel by using it, and agreeing to the Terms of Service at checkout does not take it away.
5.2 How to cancel within 14 days
Tell us clearly that you want to cancel. You can:
- email support@studyderm.app from the email address you sign in with, saying "I want to cancel my StudyDerm subscription";
- cancel in Manage billing (we treat this as notice that you are cancelling within 14 days, and email you to choose between a full refund and keeping access to the end of the paid period: see section 4.4); or
- use the model cancellation form in the Annex (you do not have to).
It is enough that you send your message, or cancel in Manage billing, before the 14 days end.
5.3 What you get back
- We refund all payments you made under the contract, in full. We do not deduct anything for content you used during the 14 days.
- We cancel your subscription and your access to paid content ends when we process the refund. If you cancelled in Manage billing, this happens only if you choose the refund (section 4.4).
- We refund you without undue delay, and in any event within 14 days after the day you tell us you are cancelling.
- We refund using the same payment method you used to pay, unless you expressly agree to something else.
- We do not charge you any fee for the refund.
Your bank or card issuer may take a few more working days to show the money in your account after we send it. This is outside our control.
5.4 Renewals
The 14-day right applies when you buy a plan. An automatic renewal of your plan does not start a new 14-day period. If your plan has ended and you later buy a new one, that new purchase has its own 14 days.
New UK rules on subscription contracts (Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024, Part 4 Chapter 2) are not yet in force. Draft regulations (the Consumer Subscription Contracts (Cancellation and Information) Regulations 2026) say they apply to contracts entered into from 1 January 2027, subject to Parliament's approval. We will update this policy before they apply to you.
6. Refunds after the first 14 days
After the 14-day period has ended, there is no legal right to a refund simply because you changed your mind. We offer the following anyway.
6.1 If you have not used paid content
If you have not used any paid content since your most recent payment, email us at support@studyderm.app. We will:
- cancel your subscription at once (your access to paid content ends when we do so), and
- refund that most recent payment in full, to the payment method you used.
This also covers a renewal you did not mean to keep, if you have not used paid content since it was taken.
6.2 If you have used paid content
If you have used paid content since your most recent payment, we do not refund that payment. We will make sure your plan does not renew, and you keep access until the end of the period you have paid for.
This does not affect your rights if something we supplied was faulty or not as described. See section 9.
6.3 What "used paid content" means
You have used paid content if, after the payment in question, you started any activity that gave you questions from a paid unit. That includes:
- a lesson or checkpoint in any unit outside the free preview;
- a module milestone or the final exam that includes a paid unit;
- a mock exam, race, sprint or review round that included questions from a paid unit.
Activity in the free preview units does not count.
Our app may download paid lessons to your device in the background so that they load quickly. A background download on its own does not count as use.
We decide this from our records of the activities you started. An activity counts only if our records show that it gave you questions from a paid unit. If our records cannot show whether an activity included paid content, it does not count as use.
7. If a payment fails
If a renewal payment fails, our payment provider will try to take it again. You keep access for 7 days after the payment first fails. If payment is still not made after that, your access to paid content ends until it is. If the payment cannot be collected, we cancel the subscription. You can update your payment details in Manage billing.
8. Chargebacks and payment disputes
Please contact us before you dispute a payment with your bank or card issuer. Most problems can be sorted out quickly, and a refund from us is faster than a dispute.
While any dispute about a payment for your plan is open, we suspend your paid access and pause your billing. You are not charged for any billing period that falls while your access is suspended, and you have no paid access for that time. If every open dispute is withdrawn or decided in our favour, your access returns for whatever is left of the period you paid for before the dispute, and your plan carries on and renews as normal. If a dispute is decided in your favour, your plan ends at once.
We do not suspend access because of a dispute about a payment taken after you cancelled.
To respond to a dispute, we may give your bank or card issuer, through our payment provider, the records of your purchase and the dates of your use of the service.
This does not stop you from raising a genuine dispute or using your legal rights.
9. Faulty content and your other rights
Nothing in this policy affects your statutory rights, including your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 if digital content or a service we supply is not of satisfactory quality, not fit for purpose, not as described, or not provided with reasonable care and skill. See the Terms of Service, sections 16 "Your legal rights" and 12 "Accuracy and corrections" (Terms of Service), and Content Accuracy and Complaints for how to report an error or make a complaint.
10. Duplicate subscriptions
Our system is designed to stop you buying a second subscription to the same course while you have one. If a second subscription is taken by mistake (for example because two checkouts were completed at the same time), the second one never replaces your first. When our system detects it, it cancels the duplicate at once and refunds every payment taken for it in full, and we tell you. If you notice it first, tell us and we will do the same.
11. Receipts and VAT invoices
Our prices include VAT. Stripe emails a receipt after each payment, and you can see your invoices in Manage billing. If you need a VAT invoice showing our VAT number, email support@studyderm.app.
When we give a refund, we refund the VAT included in the price and make any VAT adjustment the law requires.
12. Changes to this policy
Each version of this policy shows its date at the top. Every version, with the date it took effect and a summary of what changed, is listed at https://studyderm.app/cancellation-and-refunds/history. We will also send you a copy of any version on request.
Changes to this policy follow the Terms of Service, section 19 "Changes to these terms". For a significant change, we will email you at least 7 days before it takes effect (unless the law requires it sooner). You may cancel before then, and the version you agreed to will apply until the end of the period you have paid for. From the day it takes effect, the app will ask you to accept the new version before you continue studying. Any other change applies when we publish it.
